Lympstone

Lympstone - what more could you wish for?

Lympstone is a friendly, picturesque Devon village set in sandstone cliffs on the east bank of the River Exe, approximately 3 miles north of Exmouth and its glorious beaches. With a pretty harbour and numerous small fishermen's cottages, the place simply oozes charm.

There's a magnificent church, tennis courts, a village primary school and no less than three fine pubs catering for every taste, and offering a wide variety of good food along with regular live music. You'll find everyday shopping needs are well taken care of too with convenience stores and a post office close at hand.

The village is tucked away in a rural beauty spot at a point where the Exe is nearly a mile wide, providing the perfect environment for sailors from the local club to enjoy their sport. Exmouth Nature Reserve covers a large part of the estuary and offers ornithologists the chance to watch and marvel at the amazing variety of wild birds that inhabit and visit the area. And for the more energetic, the riverside walk to Exmouth is breathtaking!

Enveloped in the stunning East Devon countryside, Lympstone is surrounded by a host of charming towns, villages and natural attractions. To the south east, the quiet coastal haven of Budleigh Salterton, with its renowned golf course, affords spectacular views across the bay and access to the East Devon Coast - now acknowledged as one of the natural wonders of the world.

A few miles to the north east perches Woodbury Common, a large expanse of unspoilt, rugged moor land with remarkable vistas. Popular for walking, cycling, riding and picnics the Common is home to dozens of important wildlife species and has been designated a Site of Specific Scientific Interest. It's also steeped in ancient history and there's even a 2000 year-old hill fort to explore!

Further up the Exe estuary from Lympstone lies Topsham, an attractive, historic town that dates back some 700 years, and where, amongst the impressive Georgian and Edwardian architecture, you'll discover some of the best places to eat and drink in the area. Alternatively, you may just want to relax on the quay and watch the boats sail by!

Despite its idyllic location, Lympstone benefits from surprisingly fast and straightforward road and rail connections, making the larger conurbations of Exmouth, Exeter and beyond easy to reach. So all the services and facilities you'll ever need are right on your doorstep.
