Bere Alston

An area of wonderful contrasts. The ancient settlement of Bere Alston is the largest of two villages, the other being Bere Ferrers, situated on the Bere Peninsular, an unspoilt landscape in West Devon at the meeting point of two important rivers, The Tavy and the Tamar.

The  Peninsular lies in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded almost entirely by water and only a small area of land, which carries the road to the attractive market town of Tavistock.  Across the Tamar is Cornwall, to the south you'll find the bustling city of Plymouth with all its facilities, and a short drive east will bring you to the wild expanses of Dartmoor National Park.  It's an area of great contrasts with something to suit every taste and every mood.

The village of Bere Alston has a warm and welcoming community spirit.  Its development was fuelled centuries ago by the thriving lead, tin and silver mining industry that dominated the area.  Today the village is more peaceful, but offers its residents all the necessary amenities they might need. There's a primary school, church and doctor's surgery, and even a local football team and gig rowing club. It also benefits from its very own railway station.

The location is particularly convenient for those needing to travel further afield, being  approximately 7 miles from Tavistock and around 14 miles from Plymouth.
