South West developer leads the way by commissioning 3D 'walk through' film

9th February 2010

Prospective buyers of houses at a development in Bideford, North Devon, will be able to take a 3D look around their new homes before they are even built.

Cavanna Homes, which is the developer behind The Salterns, has commissioned a special new 3D film showing exactly how the streets and houses will look.

The technique is not widely used amongst housing developers but will offer an exceptionally detailed view of what life will be like once The Salterns is built.

Andy James from Cavanna Homes said: “We are pleased to be leading the way with this technology which is more usually used for large corporate and leisure developments and business parks. We tried a simpler version of this with our Millbrook Mews development in Milborne Port on the Somerset/Dorset border, and it was so successful we have commissioned a more elaborate film for The Salterns.

“The quality of the detail is excellent and very lifelike. Buyers can get a really good feel for the development, the streets, the houses, even the views. This means they can purchase a home with a feel for the finished product rather than just looking at a bit of muddy ground and a few pictures.”

The film is four minutes long and has been made by Red and Gray Ltd, a Staffordshire-based company which is one of the market leaders in the production of 3D films and images for the housing industry.

Lesley Edgar from Red and Gray said: “We produce the film in the same way as you would build a house. We take the computer elevations, lists of materials and the site plan, and then start by mapping out the landscape and then putting up a frame for each house. We then add in bricks, tiles and other texture, and finish off with the decorations right down to the colour of the front door.

“This was a challenging project as The Salterns is built on a hill. But the finished film worked really well. There is a beautiful pond in the middle of the development and that looked particularly attractive.”

The Salterns will feature a diverse range of new homes in a stunning location looking towards the estuary of the River Torridge with views across the countryside and valley below.

Work has already begun on the two, three and four bedroom homes which will start at around £110,000. Each has either a garage and/or parking spaces, contemporary fitted kitchens and bathrooms, double glazing and a 10 year NHBC Buildmark Warranty.

Prospective buyers can contact the Sales Office on 01237 429478 or thesalterns@cavanna.co.uk to arrange to receive a free copy of the DVD.
