New development tempts home-owners to a new way of life in the Bay

10th March 2010

Work is well underway on the latest phase of an award-winning Torquay housing development where eight out of ten homeowners have bought local.

Over eighty per cent of people who have so far bought new homes at the Cavanna Homes’ Evolve development come from the South Devon area, with the other twenty per cent being tempted to a new life in the Bay from locations around the south west region.

The latest stage of Evolve is on the rural fringe of Torquay and a short distance from The Willows retail park.  Last year Evolve won an award for the Best House Project from a large developer at the Local Authority Building Control Awards.

Phases 1, 2 and 3 have had huge success despite the national economic downturn and all properties have been sold. Demand is strong for the latest phase with a couple of plots already sold.

“Our architects were asked to produce new house designs that would work with the contours of the landscape,” said Jonathan Cavanna from Cavanna homes. “They have created an identifiable style influenced by Torquay’s strong architectural heritage.

“We were very clear that we wanted to offer local people well built and affordable properties that would enhance their quality of life while allowing them to stay in the area they love.

“What appears to be most appealing to buyers is the modern layout and design of these new homes coupled with the relatively low running costs,” added Jonathan Cavanna.

Evolve offers a mixture of homes from one and two bedroom apartments, through to three and four bedroom homes. Price guides start from £99,000.

Homes on the new development include the three bedroom Goodrington, featuring a large living room with kitchen diner, a master bedroom with an en-suite and two further bedrooms. The Kirkham offers three good sized bedrooms with a living room and a kitchen diner on the ground floor that opens onto a garden.

Adrian Coffee who moved into his three bedroom semi detached house last year said; “We really are very pleased with our new home. We are both retired and wanted a change from living in Exeter but wanted to stay in the local area. We found Evolve on the internet and bought it as soon as we saw it. We particularly like the larger sized garden which was something that we wanted.

“There is a very pleasant atmosphere here and we have good neighbours. There is a mix of age ranges and the community is growing into a very nice place to live.”
