Cavanna Homes nominated for the 'house building Oscars' for Taunton development

9th October 2009

The South West’s largest independent developer is celebrating after being nominated in the Oscars of the house building industry.

Cavanna Homes will hear next month if it has won a What House? Award for its development at Richmond Court in Taunton.

The company, which is based in Torquay, has been nominated in the Best House category.

The What House? Awards are now in their 28th year, and are a celebration of the best new homes in Britain.

Cavanna Sales Manager Andy James said: “We are absolutely delighted to be in the running for this prestigious award and we are really proud of the development at Richmond Court in Taunton. The homes there are extra special not only in their design but in their stunning setting on the edge of the Weirfield Nature Reserve by the River Tone.”

The development of just 14 large four and five bedroom family homes is set in a peaceful yet central location in Taunton. Every property has an abundance of living space, level gardens, parking and most have a garage. Prices range from £289,950 and with only five remaining homes there are special deals on offer.

The developers extended an existing wildlife corridor which ran along the back of older properties in the neighbourhood and links to the nature reserve behind Richmond Court. The corridor is planted with special plants, shrubs and trees which are attractive to a wide range of creatures. Swallows, bats, otters, kingfishers and the great crested newt are all regular visitors to the nature reserve.

Rupert Bates, editorial director of What House? Award organisers Globespan Media and leading trade magazine Show House said: “It has been a horrible year for housebuilders. But winning a What House? Award, will be an even greater achievement in such a severe economic downturn, showing sustained quality of product, despite market conditions and widespread industry redundancies. An Award is also a fantastic sales and marketing opportunity for companies to tell buyers, who will return in big numbers in 2010, they build the best new homes in Britain.”
The gala awards ceremony will be held as a luncheon at the prestigious Grosvenor House hotel on London's Park Lane on Friday 20th November 2009.

Cavanna Homes has recently revealed that sales of new homes in August 2009 were their best for two years and their second best in the last five years.

Marketing Director Jonathan Cavanna says that the company is encouraged by an upward trend in sales over the past year, during which net reservations of new homes increased by 38% to £21.4 million in the twelve months to August 2009.

“New homes offer excellent choice and value for money during a recession. There are no problems with chains and the running costs are relatively low, which is especially attractive to all cost conscious homeowners,” explains Jonathan Cavanna.
